What you will get in lessons with me:
Flexibility - I do not lock you into a time slot and expect you to make every lesson every week. I need flexibility in my life and I understand you do too. All I ask is that I have at least 24 hours notice if you are going.to miss your lesson.
Feedback - You will get a summary page after each lesson outlining what we worked on and progress so far.
Fun - I implement games in my lessons with kids in order to make it fun for them.
Freedom - freedom to work on songs you want to learn, not songs I want to teach!
JAM SESSIONS/PERFORMANCES - All adult students are invited, but not required, to attend. These PERIODIC jam sessions are a great opportunity for students to get together and try out what they are learning in their lessons. Jam sessions will occur based on number or interested students and will require at least 3. Children are invited to participate in recitals, scheduled approximately every 8 weeks.
For My Virtual St. Louis, MO StuDents:
STUDENT "LIVE COFFEEHOUSE" AT WEBSTER GROVES GARDEN CAFE!
MY GROUP OR PRIVATE STUDENTS WILL GET A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN A LIVE COFFEEHOUSE PERFORMANCE! THIS WILL BE HELD FREQUENTLY ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON OR EVENING, OR PERHAPS A WEEKNIGHT. THIS IS COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE KIDS TO GET A TASTE OF PLAYING IN A REAL VENUE IN FRONT OF A SMALLER, MORE INTIMATE AUDIENCE!

Biography
I began playing guitar at the age of 11. During my teenage years, I was heavily influenced by the music of James Taylor, Carole King, Neil Young, and others. I taught myself to play, and learned how to imitate what I heard when listening to those songs. I had a few lessons in high school, where I learned how to finger-pick. During my college years, I played guitar in the local coffeehouse, and though my major in college was unrelated to music, I did take several music theory courses at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. I went on to get my BA in Psychology from Oberlin College and my MA in Education from St. Louis University. At that point in my life, while I was developing my career and focusing on building a family, my music took a backseat. I am currently a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) as well as an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) and am a member of the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry. It was not until 20 years ago, after meeting another local mom who also played music, that I got out my guitar again and began playing music professionally in the area. 12 years ago I started teaching guitar.

"Robin makes learning guitar fun and interesting! My son loves going to his guitar lesson every week. She does a good job teaching the basics in addition to songs they’re interested in to keep their attention. She offers different opportunities for recitals to meet the student needs. I would definitely recommended Robin to anyone looking to learn how to play guitar" Diana, July, 2020
"Robin has been amazing for my 3 boys. She has taught them so much, while having fun. She has also given them the confidence to play in front of groups of people they don't know. Thank you Robin!!" Allison, July, 2020
"Robin meets you where you're at and builds on that. She tailors the lesson to fit your goals and will take you as far as you wish to go. She is flexible about the songs you want to learn and the style you enjoy best. She offers playing opportunities outside of the classroom, in a public or group setting to encourage growth." Pat, July, 2020
"I recommend this to everybody I meet with family members that want to start guitar. I like the comfortable setting and available group or private sessions.
I also respond to the laid back attitude / approach to learning the instrument. However, the structure, substance and challenge to push yourself further is definitely there, subject to how hard you are willing or able to work." Kent, April, 2016
"Our 8 year old daughter started taking guitar lessons from Robin at the beginning of the year and she really enjoys it. The atmosphere is relaxed and very comfortable and Robin teaches at a perfect pace. I'm amazed at how much she has learned in the short time she has been taking lessons. If your looking for small class lessons or individual lessons, I would highly recommend Robin. She is a great teacher!!" Amy, April 2016
"Robin is talented, organized, and has a gift for teaching music. She takes time to get to know each student's interests and introduces them to a variety of music. My ten year old son has been taking group and individual guitar lessons and looks forward to class each week. He is excited and motivated to practice guitar. Robin provides him with realistic challenges and sends great feedback on the lessons. I am amazed at how much he has learned and love seeing his confidence grow. I highly recommend My Music Room." Michelle, April, 2016
"Robin has been a wonderful guitar teacher for our daughter. She is so happy and energized after her lessons every week." Abby, April 2016
"I have greatly appreciated Robin's expertise, patience and thoughtfulness throughout my years of lessons. She has encouraged me, and enabled me, to play regularly in several venues. This has given me confidence, and seems to give pleasure to the children and elderly for whom I play." Nancy, August, 2014
“In my spare time, I have been trying to find a way to express my pride in my daughter, my love for her, my sadness, as she is going off to Mizzou. We are taking her to her new home in a dorm tomorrow. I ended up writing a song. I've never done anything like that before.
I never ended up being brave enough, or the right occasion never presented itself or both, so I never performed it for her. So, I drove out to the cabin today so I could be alone, and I made a YouTube video of me playing the song I wrote for her. Before taking lessons from Robin I couldn't play guitar at all. And I was too embarrassed to even sing a song in class with just her and me in the room.” Steve, August 19, 2014
"There is no question that Robin Lopate has a passion for music. Robin was my
first and only guitar teacher; she got me interested and excited in not only
guitar, but music in general. She does a wonderful job of allowing students to
experiment with their own musical style and helps them accomplish their own
goals. There is no one I would recommend more to beginners or advanced
musicians. Robin's passion for music is undeniable, but her passion for her
students is even greater". Katie, February 19, 2012
“Robin has a Masters in Education plus many years of guitar experience.
She is actively playing in two bands in the St. Louis area. Her studio is
perfect for teaching lessons and she will do a good job of explaining music and
the guitar to her students.” Mary Beth, February 4, 2012
“Robin is passionate about music. She is dedicated, talented, and
experienced through years of performing and working with other musicians. She
has the skills and resources to transfer her knowledge and passion to others,
especially young people. I can strongly recommend her as a fine music
instructor.” Steve, February 4, 2012
